Sketch, Stretch and Scratch: Building Illustrated Pottery
Two-Day Hands-on Workshop
Saturday, May 20, 10am – 4 pm and Sunday, May 21, 10 am – 4 pm
Tuition: $300.00, members $150.00
In this two-day workshop, students will learn new ways of designing, building and illustrating their forms by working with soft clay slabs. Chandra will share how she translates sketches into 3-dimensional forms by using simple and inexpensive materials, such as wood, bisqued clay and craft foam through handbuilding and limited wheel-throwing techniques.
Chandra will demonstrate techniques for freehand drawing, direct image transfer, underglaze inlay, brushwork, sgraffito, texture and the use of wax and underglaze to create a layered, colorful surface.
This workshop is suitable for beginning to advanced handbuilding or wheel throwing students. Although the techniques and discussion will be focused on pottery and surfaces for midrange electric, the workshop will be valuable for any student striving to develop a more cohesive relationship between form and surface in their own clay work.
