Each semester we invite the entire Mudflat community to create works in clay that respond to a theme. Participants have most of a semester (12-14 weeks) to think about, design and make their piece. Every piece that is submitted is accepted for a group exhibition. Each artist is asked to write 2-3 sentences describing how their piece relates to the theme and what prompted them to make this work. Awards are given at each exhibition by our juror (our current Artist-in-Residence): Well-crafted, Conceptual, Experimental, and Juror’s Choice.

“From the many studios and kilns I have worked in, I have saved a number of unique pots and sculptures that act as milestones since 1979 to the present. There will be a wide variety of forming methods and firing styles displayed; from low fire soda, raku, electric oxidation, reduction, salt, soda, and wood-fired kilns.”

“Mudflat was my first residency out of graduate school and continued as my studio and teaching opportunity for many years. I am pleased to be able to share this work with the Mudflat community. Special thanks to the innumerable fellow students and teachers that I have had the pleasure of working alongside at Mudflat and elsewhere.”
