Thrown & Altered Majolica

Saturday May 16 & Sunday May 17, 10 am-4 pm

Tuition: $300.00, members $150.00

Posey will be presenting a "Tuttle Talk" on Friday May 15 - free and open to the public.

This workshop will focus on altering wheel thrown pots and majolica decoration. The pots will combine thrown, altered and handbuilt sections. A variety of the altering techniques will be demonstrated, including several oval forms such as boxes, pitchers and vases. Also, different approaches to handles, spouts, and feet will be explored.

Majolica is a glaze and decorating tradition that began in the Middle East in the 9th Century. My work is a contemporary approach to this majolica tradition. My majolica glaze practice will be discussed and demonstrated. A variety of decorating techniques and strategies to decorate the surface of pots including the use of gold decals will be shown. Handouts containing the technical information about majolica will be provided and slides will be shown.

Although we will be working with majolica, these strategies can be used to decorate work of any type or at any temperature. The goal is lively, colorful and expressive surface that can be developed using these techniques.
