Introductory Workshops

Come try your hand at working with clay! These introductory workshops are a great way to see if you like this material. Designed for first-timers, with hands-on instruction. Finished work will be ready for pick-up about one month after the workshop. Choose from Adult Wheelthrowing Intro, Adult Handbuilding Intro, and Date Night Clay.

WHEELTHROWING INTRO

Come try your hand at working with clay on the potter's wheel. Mudflat teacher Lisa Knebel will show you how to use the potter's wheel to make your own pots. Each student will save one pot that they make and it will be glazed and fired. This is a great way to see if you like this approach to working with clay.

DATE NIGHT CLAY

Have a Friday night date in East Somerville! Bring your sweetheart and try your hands at working with clay on the potter's wheel. Mudflat teachers Kate Kuligowski and Arthur Halvorsen will show you how to use the potter's wheel and introduce you to making your own pots. Each student will save one pot that they make and it will be glazed and fired for pick-up at a later date.

Tuition: $80 per couple

Make personalized charcuterie board for two with this clay date night kit from Mudflat Studio!

Clay @ Home workshop purchases include a workshop kit to be picked up at Mudflat & a link to stream/download an instructional video when you are ready to make your projects. Following the video, make pieces at home with your sweetheart, then bring them into Mudflat to be fired for finished ceramic pieces!

Each workshop participant will be able to make 2 pieces to get fired (4 pieces per kit) and will be able to choose a glaze for each piece. Projects are then dropped off at Mudflat Studio in Somerville during designated drop off times (please see below) for your creations to be fired & glazed. Finished projects will be ready to pick up approximately 3-4 weeks following drop off. Participants will be emailed when their creations are ready.

*Project videos are available starting at time of purchase until May 14 when they will expire. Completed projects should be dropped off to Mudflat Studio no later than May 15.

The workshop includes a kit that you pick up at Mudflat Studio. This kit includes:
8 lbs. of clay
2 wooden skewers
2 plastic knives,
template sheets
plastic


Drop off and pick-up times are as follows:
Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays: 10 am – 6 pm
Tuesdays & Thursdays: 10 am – 3 pm
Saturdays: 1 pm – 4 pm
